The Quirino Torrent Canyon is a breathtaking gorge within the WWF Oasis of Guardiaregia-Campochiaro, part of the SIC-ZPS protected area “La Gallinola-M. Miletto-Monti del Matese”. This incredible natural site stretches for over 5 km, with vertical drops exceeding 200 meters, creating a stunning landscape of rocky walls, waterfalls, and crystal-clear pools.
It is one of Italy’s top spots for canyoning, offering 9 equipped drops, with the highest reaching 40 meters.
A major highlight is the San Nicola Waterfall, cascading over three levels for a total height of 100 meters. The main 40-meter drop ends in a deep natural pool, perfect for an adrenaline-pumping dive! However, this waterfall is seasonal, fed by the Vallone Grande and visible only during periods of high water flow.
The San Nicola Trail, marked by CAI Molise, winds through the canyon, providing panoramic views of the waterfalls. It also features educational panels and birdwatching huts, making it a great destination for school groups and nature lovers.
If you crave adventure and wild landscapes, the Quirino Canyon is a must-visit gem in the Matese mountains!
