Cantina HERERO was founded in Campobasso in 2013 with the aim of enhancing the wine heritage of the Molise region. The winery processes exclusively controlled designation of origin (DOC) grapes from three esteemed varieties: Tintilia del Molise, the region’s native grape par excellence, and Montepulciano and Falanghina, both traditionally cultivated in neighboring regions.
The agronomic management of the vineyards is rooted in environmentally friendly practices and a strong focus on terroir—central concepts in the company’s philosophy. The vineyards, cultivated without irrigation, are fully managed by hand, including all cultivation and harvesting operations. The harvest is also done manually, using crates, and is intentionally delayed to allow full phenolic and sugar ripening of the grapes, which results in natural wines with high alcohol content, ranging from 13.5% to 17% vol.
Each grape variety is vinified separately to highlight its unique characteristics. Sustainability is another cornerstone of the winery’s operations: the energy used comes from photovoltaic systems, lighting is LED-based, and bottle choices favor lightweight models with reduced environmental impact in both production and transportation.
In the cellar, an advanced automated system controls temperature throughout all vinification and storage phases. All tanks are temperature-regulated, ensuring optimal conditions for preserving wine quality. During bottling, the wine-protection technique is used, injecting nitrogen to shield the wine from oxidation.
For the regional market, the wine label is also designed as a reusable bookmark, promoting reading and paper reuse. This initiative reflects the belief that culture, like fine wine, enriches people’s lives and enhances their best moments.
