Just one kilometre from the town of Cercemaggiore, in the picturesque village of Cavapietre, stands one of the most significant monuments for the community: the Porta del Mondo.. This symbolic site, located in an extraordinary panoramic point along the provincial road, offers a breathtaking view of the valley of the Tammaro and the majestic Massif del Matese, making it an unmissable stop for residents and visitors.
The Door of the World is a work in bronze full of meaning: a large door that opens ideally on a globe, also made in bronze, to symbolize the deep bond between Cercemaggiore and his emigrated children in every corner of the planet. The monument celebrates, in fact, the sense of belonging and identity shared by all the cercesi, even those distant, emphasizing the importance of the roots and the collective memory.
Next to the door, a large stone block houses a commemorative plaque that is dedicated every year to a cercese who has distinguished himself in the world for particular merits, whether cultural, professional, humanitarian or artistic. This gesture renews the memory and pride for those who took the name of the country beyond national borders, turning the monument into a place of reflection and recognition.
The area surrounding the World’s Door is also thought as a space of sociality and well-being. In front of the monument, close to a pine forest, a small playground for children and a modern fitness area have been set up, testifying to how this place combines memory, nature and everyday life. It is an open, inclusive space where families can meet, children play and adults carve out moments of physical activity, all immersed in a natural environment of rare beauty.
The Door of the World is not only an artistic work, but a meeting point between past and present, between those who stayed and those who left. A strong and heartfelt symbol that tells the story of a united community, proud of its origins and able to look to the future with gratitude and pride.
