Lucito and its Artistic Soul: Discovering the Pettinicchi Art Gallery

Loading...

Tucked away in the hills of Molise, the small village of Lucito guards a hidden artistic gem: the Civic Art Gallery “Prof. Antonio Pettinicchi”. Set inside the charming 18th-century Casa D’Attilio, this gallery is more than an exhibition space—it’s a heartfelt tribute to one of Italy’s most sincere and soulful artists.

Born in Lucito in 1925, Antonio Pettinicchi painted the lives of the humble: farmers, old traditions, religious feasts, and people marked by hardship and dignity. The gallery features over 30 of his works, including acrylics, pencil sketches, engravings, and even the tools he used in his artistic journey. All were donated by his family to preserve his legacy and reconnect the town with its most illustrious son.

Walking through the rooms, you feel more than just admiration—you feel part of a story. Pettinicchi’s work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale and Rome’s Quadriennale, and even hangs alongside Picasso in Moscow’s Pushkin Museum and the Uffizi in Florence. Yet, despite international acclaim, his art always returned home—to Lucito, to his roots.
