Raviolata is a gastronomic event that celebrates the delicious Raviolo Scapolese. Established in 1990, it takes place on the last Sunday of Carnival and sees the active participation of the women of the village. Over the years, the event has been enriched with new content, gaining unanimous acclaim and consolidating its importance in the national gastronomic scene.

In 2005, the Italian Academy of Cuisine-Delegation of Isernia catalogued and registered the traditional recipe of Raviolo Scapolese. To enhance this gastronomic symbol, the Municipality of Scapoli joined the “City of Flavors” network, and thanks to the intervention of the Region, the raviolo obtained ministerial recognition of typicality.

In February 2010, the Raviolo Scapolese was officially presented internationally at the Palais d’Europe in Brussels, as a tribute to Scapoli emigrants around the world. The growing notoriety of the dish prompted the Scapoli City Council to establish the Denominazione Comunale di Origine (De.C.O.) in the same year to protect and promote its identity.

Over the years, many other accolades have come for this little treasure chest full of flavor that, with one bite, allows you to savor the tastes and stories of yesteryear.

The recipe for raviolo scapolese has been handed down orally for generations in the town of Scapoli, a gastronomic heritage jealously guarded by the town’s women and passed down exclusively from mother to daughter. The dough, kneaded by hand to a rough and irregular consistency, encloses a very rich filling made of cheese, different varieties of meat, vegetables and potatoes, resulting in a unique first course.

The raviolata is therefore dedicated to this specialty, enhancing a tradition deeply rooted in the culture of Scapoli. Thanks to the active participation of the community, the event is distinguished by impeccable organization, so much so that in 2013 it reached a historic record: as many as 5,500 raviolis served in a single edition.

Thanks to the awards and constant valorization, including through Raviolata, Raviolo Scapolese now represents an excellence of Molise’s culinary heritage, confirming its role as an ambassador of the local gastronomic tradition.
