Route: Sepino – Telese – Piedimonte Matese – Sepino
The journey begins in Sepino, home to the magnificent archaeological site of Saepinum – Altilia, a fully preserved Roman town. It’s a destination worth the trip alone. From here, the road climbs toward Morcone, passing gentle hills and relaxing landscapes, before continuing to Guardia Sanframondi, famous for its excellent wines and charming historic center perched on the hillside.
Descending into the Telesina Valley, you reach Telese Terme, known for its thermal waters and the remains of the Roman city of Telesia—a perfect spot for a refreshing break or a delicious lunch. Shortly after, you arrive in Faicchio, with its castle and the scenic Ponte Fabio Massimo—ideal for a postcard-worthy photo with your motorcycle.
Here begins the most exciting part of the route: the climb to Piedimonte Matese and onward to San Gregorio Matese. The road, full of curves and hairpin bends, offers breathtaking views over the valley. Legends of bandits and tales from local shepherds accompany every kilometer. Suddenly, the magic of Lake Matese appears—the highest alpine lake in southern Italy—a truly enchanting spot perfect for an unforgettable photo stop.
The route continues toward Guardiaregia, at the foot of the WWF nature reserve, where nature takes center stage with the spectacular Quirino Gorge, one of the deepest canyons in Europe. Finally, the road gently winds back to Sepino, through forests, pastures, and unspoiled landscapes.
A complete loop, combining fun curves, local food and wine, historic villages, and breathtaking scenery. An experience every motorcyclist should enjoy at least once.
