In the heart of the Molise summer, amid traditions and historical reenactments, the “Giornate al Borgo” in Fornelli stands out—an event that, on August 13 and 14, transforms the ancient village into a lively medieval setting.
Established in the late 1990s, this event takes Fornelli back in time, bringing its streets to life with artisan workshops, street performers, and local culinary specialties. The program is packed with memorable moments, including the historical parade, medieval games, and the appearance of the Palio knights.
The first day opens with an impressive historical procession, in which participants in period costumes parade through the village streets, bringing to life the atmosphere of days gone by. The shops offer a wide range of local products and handcrafted goods, while performances entertain visitors. The evening concludes with a spectacular reenactment of the assault on the village walls.
The second day features the Palio riders, who, divided by district, compete in tests of skill and precision. Throughout the day, the village continues to come alive with performances and food stalls, where visitors can savor traditional flavors. The event culminates at the stroke of midnight with the spectacular “burning of the castle,” a fireworks display that lights up the night and captivates tourists and locals alike.
The “Giornate al Borgo” offer an immersive experience into the past, highlighting the charm and beauty of Fornelli, already one of the most picturesque villages in Molise.
