A parade of floats in the middle of summer? In Frosolone, on August 1, this tradition is combined with the rite of “Perdonanza,” culminating in an evening of festivities with the Festival of Codfish and Peppers.

The event, which originated in the 1970s, sees the population engaged in the creation of floats that re-enact episodes and characters from local history. The event is divided into two moments: a religious and a folkloric one. In the afternoon, starting at 4 p.m., the penitential celebration, Holy Mass and Procession, central elements of the rite of “Perdonanza,” take place at the church of San Rocco.

The parade of floats kicks off around 6 p.m. from Corso Vittorio Emanuele, winding through the streets of the town to Alessandro Volta Square. The atmosphere is charged with color, music and creativity as the community and visitors take a journey into collective memory.

Closing the event, the traditional “cod and peppers” festival offers attendees an opportunity to taste typical local flavors, followed by music and entertainment. The evening concludes with the awarding of the floats.

This event is a unique opportunity to discover Frosolone at an unusual time, enjoying the cool mountain climate even in summer and experiencing tradition, culture and gastronomy.
