In the heart of Upper Molise, San Pietro Avellana stands out as one of Italy’s truffle capitals, celebrating each year two must-attend events for lovers of the prized mushroom: the National Summer Black Truffle Fair and the Precious White Truffle Market Exhibition.

The Summer Black Truffle Fair, now in its 35th year in 2024, is traditionally held on the second weekend of August. During this event, the village comes alive with food stands, tastings, guided tours and folk performances, attracting visitors from all over central and southern Italy. The event is an opportunity to highlight the black summer truffle, a product of excellence in the area, and to promote local traditions.

On the first weekend of November, however, San Pietro Avellana hosts the Mostra Mercato del Tartufo Bianco Pregiato, now in its 29th year in 2024. This event celebrates the white truffle, considered the “diamond of the kitchen,” and offers visitors the opportunity to buy and taste this prized product. The event also includes cultural conferences, visits to local museums and musical entertainment, creating a festive and engaging atmosphere.

Typical dishes accompanied by quality wine and great chefs engaged in preparations and always ready to give advice on the best pairings make the event of high caliber. However, there is also street food at the Pro Loco stand, others from various producers where it is possible to buy the prized mushroom all accompanied by music, dancing and fun.

San Pietro Avellana is an active member of the National Truffle Cities Association and hosts the Truffle Museum, an immersive experience that tells the story and culture related to this product. The museum offers visitors a sensory journey between tradition and innovation, enriching the village’s tourism offerings.

The Truffle Fair in San Pietro Avellana represents a perfect combination of food and wine, culture and nature, offering an authentic and engaging experience for all visitors in the “Truffle City.”
