Sunset in Molise: perfect places for unique emotions

The sunset, who among us does not have at least one memory related to one? It is there every day, but when we have time to enjoy it we are always fascinated, almost holding our breath.

Alone or in company it allows us to savor and fully experience the moments and places. Regarding the latter, there are many in Molise that offer breathtaking sunsets. From the sea to the mountains, from villages to the countryside to places to visit. Let’s discover some of them.

“Unhappy is that man who has never seen the sun set in Fornelli.” This phrase, said in 1667 by Carlo Dentice, Podesta of the municipality, best expresses the wonder that is shown to the eyes of visitors. With views sweeping from the Volturno Valley to the Mainarde mountain range, Fornelli is truly one of the perfect places to admire the sunset.

The higher you go, the farther the view reaches. For the second tip, then, one cannot fail to climb the peaks of Molise, Matese or the Mainarde Mountains.. From the peaks, on clear days, it is easy to admire the Adriatic Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea with the latter gracing, along with its islands, the moment of sunset.

From the Samnites to the Romans, from the Benedictines to the present day. The church of Santa Maria di Monteverde, between the towns of Vinchiaturo and Mirabello Sannitico, stands on a historic and scenic site. Sited at about 1,000 meters above sea level, it tells more than 2,500 years of history with a privileged view of the Matese, the Pescasseroli-Candela sheep trail downstream and, of course, another magnificent sunset.

At the highest point of Duronia, a small town almost on the border between the two provinces, there is a natural place perfect for views. In In the locality of San Tommaso, where a stone cross in honor of the saint also stands on a rocky mass overhanging the valley, there is an almost 360-degree view of Molise. Turning westward then, in the direction of the Montagnola Molisana, one cannot help but enjoy another sunset.

Who has never experienced a sunset by the sea? Termoli, Molise’s main coastal town, thus becomes a favorite place for the last moments of relaxation before darkness falls. Being on the eastern side of Italy, one does not admire the sunset directly on the sea, but thanks to the location looking north, the sun sets not far from the blue expanse.
