Palazzo Pistilli, declared of historical and artistic interest in 1996, stands at the highest point of Campobasso’s old town along Salita di San Bartolomeo, near the Romanesque church of the same name. Built in 1783 by the Pistilli family, documented since the 16th century, the palace is located next to the cloistered complex of Santa Croce del Battente. Perched on a small terrace, it connects seamlessly to the medieval stairways winding through the city’s historic fabric.
The building has two floors and six intimate rooms showcasing the art collections of Giuseppe Ottavio Eliseo and Michele Praitano, donated to the state in 2012 and 2014, respectively. Today, Palazzo Pistilli is a museum that offers an immersive journey through art history in a cozy and elegant setting. Once a private collection, the artworks are now open to the public, fulfilling the owners’ wish to share their artistic treasures with the world.
