In the heart of the Molise hinterland, nestled amongst lush woodland and unspoilt nature, lies one of the region’s most enchanting spots: the Carpinone Waterfalls. This natural spectacle, once known only to a handful of enthusiasts, is becoming one of Molise’s most popular destinations, thanks to the efforts of a group of volunteers who have improved access to the site without damaging the surrounding environment.
The route to the waterfalls winds along paths immersed in greenery, marked by hand-crafted wooden signposts that blend perfectly with the landscape. From the very first steps along the path, the sound of rushing water hints at the wonder that awaits visitors: a roar that draws the senses towards a place that seems to have stepped out of a fairy tale.
The main waterfall, known as Carpino Waterfalls, is a drop of around ten metres that plunges into a small pool, creating evocative plays of light and reflections. The scenic path allows you to view the waterfall both from above, amongst the vegetation, and from the base, where two parallel streams of water flow between boulders. A section of the path runs right in front of the waterfall, offering various photographic vantage points and moments of pure contemplation.
A short distance away lies another marvel: the Schioppo Waterfalls. Smaller than the previous one, it is fed by the Tura stream and cascades down a wall covered in moss and stones, before flowing into the river. Here, the path follows the riverbank, winding through dense, fragrant vegetation. During the summer months, you can cool off in the crystal-clear waters of the river, enjoying direct contact with nature.
The Carpinone Waterfalls are not just a place to visit, but an experience to be savoured: perfect for walking excursions, for lovers of nature photography, or simply for those seeking peace and beauty in an unspoilt setting. This corner of Molise, so authentic and largely untouched by mass tourism, is a true hidden gem, ideal for recharging your batteries far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Furthermore, thanks to the presence of specialist guides, you can take part in numerous sporting activities in the great outdoors. Among the most engaging is aquatrekking, a sport suitable for everyone, where there’s just one watchword: fun.
