Church of Saint Nicholas of Bari

The Mother Church of Lucito, dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Bari, has uncertain origins, though one of the earliest records appears in the Rationes Decimarum between 1308 and 1310, which mentions a local clergy referred to as “Clerici Liceti”.

It is believed that the church suffered severe damage during the 1456 earthquake. It was rebuilt and expanded in the 16th century, marking the beginning of a new artistic and spiritual chapter.
Between 1601 and 1602, the local Rosary Confraternity
commissioned a painting by the famous Neapolitan artist
Fabrizio Santafede, depicting the Madonna of the Rosary with the Mysteries. The piece remains a key part of the church’s heritage.

The church also houses a beautiful painting titled “Holy Family” (1680) by Benedetto Brunetti, a painter from nearby Oratino, well known for his sacred works in the late Baroque style.

After the major earthquake of 1805, the church was entirely restored in 1897, giving it its current appearance. The building stands today as a testament to centuries of devotion, artistic legacy, and local history.
