The Dream of Termoli: The Monument that Marks Time

Loading...

On the Rio Vivo promenade in Termoli, precisely where the 42nd parallel north meets the 15th meridian east, stands the monument “The Dream”. Inaugurated in 2013, this 7-meter-high structure marks a symbolic and significant geographical point: the meridian crossing Termoli is the central meridian of Europe, defining the continent’s time zone, making the city a kind of “Italian Greenwich.”

With its illuminated top, the monument was designed to make the intangible lines of our planet visible and tangible. Located near the Marina di San Pietro, this exact spot was once occupied by the now-disused “Trabucco di Bricche,” an ancient fishing structure.

Beyond its geographical significance, “The Dream” represents the intangible world of dreams, a cultural message aimed at future generations to highlight the importance of memory and the connection between past and future. A fascinating location, perfect for a seaside stroll and for experiencing an atmosphere suspended between science, history, and poetry.
